Sometimes I don't receive an answer to my request to publish a letter and I don't know how to interpret it. So I've decided to simplify things and not oblige readers to answer. WM

Elections in Quebec ..., Threat to Stray Cats ..., Serbs and Jews..., Vagabond

No new comments on this subject because everything on this topic has already been said in Vagabond. See Cinderella Nations, Perfect Federalism -- Including Quebec?, How Much of Canada to Quebec? WM

Re: Threat to Stray Cats (November 98 Communication Page)

I live in the Canary Islands, Spain and this is a huge problem over here. There are people deliberately poisoning to cut down stray cat populations and the 'accidental' poisoning of cats in rural, agricultural areas, where poisons are given away freely. Our biggest argument, since no-one seems to care about the animals, is will they stop when a child had ingested this poison and died? The implications are so vast. Please fight to ensure this does not become practice.

Re: Serbs and Jews (May 98 issue)

I have liked the approach to your brief historical comparisons but there are many historic inaccuracies. One for instance about the Serbs protecting the Jews during the WW ll. I would not wish to enter into the argument but the proof is the postal stamps issued by Serbs to announce to the world that they have got rid of all the Jews in Belgrade and thus created the first Jew free city in Europe.

Kind regards!

Seemingly those stamps were printed by the Germans and in Germany, and there is not a single stamp canceled by the Serbian Post Office. Anybody who can briefly add some more precision to the subject is welcome to write. WM

Re: Vagabond

William,
It seems that congratulations are due to you on the occasion of your artwork being exhibited at the Laurier Gallery in Etobicoke. The color flyer that you sent me shows an attractive thumbnail of "The Sea." I haven't seen the full size image, but this reminds me of a Mediterranean view. What actual location inspired the image?

I continue to enjoy reading "Vagabond" and find that our philosophies are quite resonant in many respects, based on my interpretation of your aphorisms. Radical realism leavened with closet optimism, I'd say...

Best regards,

Jeff -- the colour on the invitation is inaccurate; much too blue. That's why I personally prefer the black and white version. The picture is an oil pastel and represents the sea at Gaspesia, Quebec.

Thanks for your moral support of Vagabond. As much as I appreciate the Web, I miss the physical characteristics linked with printed matter; the touch, the smell, the weight and portability. One can't have it all. WM
