Khazars

William- in reality Jews-Khazars can't claim Palestine as their homeland and all propaganda is just big lie. Another way, they are terrorist and robbers of Palestinian's land.

Robert -- the original truths will remain forever blurred in the remote past. Therefore, what we sincerely believe we are is more important than what we are. Even deliberate lies sometimes miss their target. For instance, Picasso apparently considered his styles a big joke designed to "epater le bourgeois" but he forgot one thing: his genius. The same thing, at an opposite pole, happened to Johann Sebastian Bach who modestly declared, "I am only a hard worker." WM

Re: The Jewish People (November 2001 issue)

Reading your article brought to mind a story a Jewish friend told me a few years ago which he read in some Jewish magazine. It was a story about a young boy in Yemen whose grandmother told him when he was thirteen years old that she was not his true grandmother and that he was Jewish. The boy's mother was her friend. Before dying she had given her the baby, asking her to reveal to him, when he reached his adolescence, that he was a Jew and that he should go to Jerusalem.

He hired himself out as a camel boy for a caravan going to the north through Saudi Arabia. I don't remember all the details of his saga; in one situation he was sold as a slave and succeeded in escaping. He became somebody's servant. After a lot of complications he found his way to Syria, and all this took him quite a long time. Then, from Syria or Lebanon he found a way to sneak across the frontier where he was caught by Israeli guards. He told them his story and ended by saying:, "I am really a Jew!" Amidst the deep silence of his listeners the officer replied: "Surely you are, and one of the best."

They wanted to take him to Jerusalem, his final destination, but he insisted that his mother told him to walk. So they integrated him into the Israeli scouts group that went to Jerusalem. I don't remember if anything was said about what became of him. Maybe a religious Jewish organization took him under its wing and he became one more 'hassid.' Maybe his dreams were shattered. There is one lesson to learn from this saga of a young Yemenite: that the magic of Judaism transcends the notion of culture, of race, of a people, even of religion. It's something mystical at its roots, impalpable and eternal, and I am impressed enough to be willing to become a Jew if I were a believer.

Re: "Buchanan's "The Death of the West"" (This issue)

Dear Bill (if I may be so bold):
Nice article on Pat Buchanan and his often contradictory view of the world.

When his book came out I tried emailing his organization with a question which perhaps you can comment on. He goes.

One of Pat's big platforms is to provide cash in the form of rebates which can be used to funds private education. Here was question to Pat's people. If his plan is put into place and the people got school choice wouldn't that in turn push people further away from Western-based education which still dominates schools? It could happen. I mean the rich East Indians in San Jose are not sending their kids to public schools if they can afford it and they are becoming a little ghetto. I think Pat's view is twisted. He thinks that due to the politically correct leanings in public schools the system is being slanted away from the west. Reality check Pat. If you give Mexicans or blacks or whoever the right to control their own educational fate they will turn their back on the west. Education should be a tool of integration not a means to further segregate us.

I wish that commentators would dig deeper when they talk to Pat it seems to me that they just let him get away with whatever he wants without challenge. He is a complete contradiction.

Thanks for reading.

As we know, private schools have a reputation for better education than the public schools, and perhaps for Buchanan quality counts the most. He may think that free competition will ensure victory of those private schools that remain the most committed to Western criteria. WM

"Poland Again" (December 97 issue)

Dear William,
My name is Patti.. I just wanted to say thank you for putting this article on public display. I am also Polish, and have a strong desire to see this land that most people around me know so little of. My parents are both Polish and were raised in Hamtramck,Michigan. My grandfather on my father's side of the family was born there and it has always been my father's dream to visit Poland.. Unfortunately, he passed away three years ago from cancer and never made it. I am hoping that someday I will be able to travel there to learn more of my heritage...

I thought that your article was wonderful and helped me to get a small picture of life in Poland..

Thank you again,
Patti
patti@scinternet.net

I hope you will have a good time in Poland but you should go as soon as possible because so much is changing and Poland is becoming much more like the rest of Europe. Belonging to the European Community means benefits and losses. I am sorry your father never could make it. WM

An accomplishment

I wont give names and locations because I don't yet know if the concerned person agrees and if I haven't asked him it's because I wanted to be sure first that you would be interested in the topic.

In my neighbourhood there is a beautiful old church which, like many churches has a shaky economy. One fellow, an artist, has made radical changes that put a breath of life into the church. Because the generous size of the old structure, he set up the huge basement to accommodate all types of art centres and activities which saved the church from the real estate market and enhanced the cultural and community life at the same time. I believe he deserves kudos not only from the church and worshippers but also from the city for saving a beautiful landmark. I would like to recommend him to the Mayor for the reward he deserves.

n_maria33@hotmail.com

Of course, talk to him. If he agrees, write to me again giving details so we can send the information through Vagabond to the Mayor. WM
