I would like to tell you I agree with all your words, but your writing has not a date, so I would like to know what about now, I would like to tell that my heart is with Serbian people in this very hard history period!

Thank you for letting me know of your publication. It is pithy and well presented. I can't help but feel it is primarily your soapbox, but I did poke around and found your article about posters quite intriguing. As I have time I hope to look about a bit more, although time is short because I do try to add as often as possible to my site, and this takes a lot of thought for me. I am not as glib as some folks out there, my site as it stands is the product of one and a half years of work -- albeit sometimes sporadic.
Have you investigated Jon Will's site? He has links to many Utopian sites, and the discussion group associated with utopiapa has many interesting issues. I've only just started going thru some of the more than 350 postings. I have a lot I wish to contribute but don't want to rehash ground already covered.
In any case, you come across as one who is interested in improving society. For this I say many thank you's and hope you will continue. As I get a chance to look thru your site more, I expect I will want to add a link from my site to yours. Are you OK with this?

Gordon -- as I express my opinions in Vagabond, it may be considered my 'soapbox'. On the other hand, the Communication Page is definitely not my soapbox. I haven't yet investigated Jon Will's site but certainly will. As for links from Vagabond, you may have remarked that though they are dispersed throughout the letters sent to the Communication Page, they are certainly found and read by the numerous visitors. Of course I would be pleased with your link. WM

Our latest venture with the Doves is a program I am really excited about and I would love to have forum to get it in front of readers. It is called "Lovestock"....and I put the final touches to the brochure on it only yesterday. We will now ask our members to donate to a gift of life for elderly women. Lovestock is an animal sponsored program that will enable a woman overseas to have a flock of chickens or a milk goat , or perhaps a beehive. The income she would receive from the sale of the animal's product, i.e.: the eggs, milk, or honey, will provide an income stream for her. The animal would be purchased locally, to ensure its adaptation to climate and conditions by our liaison people who now help us to screen the women for Doves projects. There are two conditions that must be met though. One is that a photo must be taken of the recipient and the animal and the other is that the animal must be passed along only to another elderly woman if the owner becomes unable to care for it.
My latest book, Babushka, Grandmother's Bench ....... is now ready for release next week, with the site going up by Worldwide Publishing out of London at the same time. I signed off on the final format a few weeks ago and will send you the site as soon as I get the word. Worldwide is also going to re-release The Open Cupboard, which is small gift book of recipes that I did to help get the Doves started three years ago. The proceeds carried us over the tough startup period and has kept us going. Hopefully, Babushka, which are six different stories of women who grew up through the Stalin years and were able to contribute to society with a mixture of courage and resilience. Please enjoy! History does, indeed, repeat itself. .......
The eye-straining research is for my next book, Tarnished Sabre. It chronicles the life of a dear departed friend of mine, taken from his diaries of his experiences from 1922- though 1946. He was trained in the Tsarist military academies until he ran away at thirteen to join Kolchak's White Army. He fought the Red Army bravely, then fought Chang Kai-shek's youthful rebellion in Shanghai. Eventually winding up in the new Yugoslavia, with the King as his mentor! We find the details of the King's death...fascinating indeed.....and unheard of until now...

This is a labor of love, to write of this noble and honorable man, and probes the often rewritten and distorted history of the troubled land which he so loved.

There is a gripping scene of the Danube, filled with the bodies of Serb villagers who were massacred, that is unforgettable. Contrasted with the pomp and trimmings of this man's former life in the King's service, it is a stark reminder of how quickly circumstances can change for any of us.
The personal insights of the personalities of the King and his family were due to the fact that my friends mother was employed by the monarch to manage the Summer Palace at Oplenac after their exile from Russia. Apparently many of the officers of the White Army and the students of the former Tsarist Military Academies were brought to the new country called Yugoslavia, which had just been formed.
...........From my travels in Yugoslavia, I feel the divisions among good people, with good hearts, on all sides. My only hope is for a lasting peace in such a beautiful land.
I write for one reason only....I have to. It started out years ago, when I wrote only for my own eyes and grew to pseudonym written magazine articles over the years (usually when I was broke). For some inexplicable reason, when I submitted things, a check usually followed....lol . Writing, for me, has always been a way to relax. I am suddenly in someone else's clothes, skin, and emotions and thereby able to transport my own psyche to a train going nowhere. I travel across time and space in my new body and encounter another lifetime, but fraught with the same issues I need to resolve. Writing allows me various approaches to solutions, whilst protected in the guise of the character.....it is relatively safe and when I emerge from the so-called 'zone', my own issues have been miraculously dispersed ! LOL.....I hope that makes a bit of sense to someone besides me. ...........
....... William, I am more than pleased to have met you in this rather unorthodox way. This proves the power of the Internet is not be scoffed at.

Could you possibly elaborate on the statement "the Ukrainians who chose Hitler", from a recent report that you wrote in April, 2000? I am a bit confused.

The Germans co-opted allies all over Europe, from west to east, from Brittany to Baltic nations, Ukraine and Russia (have you heard of General Vlasov?), including Croatia, Slovenia, Albania, The Bosnian Muslims (under auspices of the Great Mufti of Jerusalem), Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, many with their own SS Divisions. In Caucasus there were Chechens and others. The Canadian-Ukrainian author Victor Poliszczuk wrote a book "The Bitter Truth." He declares in the preface that he doesn't discuss Jewish - Ukrainian relationships, only the Polish - Ukrainian relationships with the aim of contributing toward Polish - Ukrainian normalisation. A few years ago on Canadian TV there was an encounter between members of the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Canadian Ukrainian Congress. The Ukrainians declared that they fought the Red Army and never attacked civilians. In "Chechnya", my article you refer to, I mention the Ukrainians because I use the example of those who made the wrong choice for themselves. The Ukrainian deal with the Germans didn't do them any good as Germany exploited them and went back on their promises. Therefore in the end, the Ukrainians turned against the Germans. For the others, choosing Hitler wasn't such a bad deal; now Germany rewards them for their fidelity and a recent popular song in Croatia starts with the German words, "Danke Deutschland!" Of course I am giving you a superficial overview. If you are interested in digging into the subject, you should probably look at Ukrainian, Jewish, Polish and Russian sources. WM

I assume that the politically correct are those who follow Big Brothers, whatever the century or ideology. Political correctness serves to ensure your comfort, career, even survival. Political correctness is the anti-risk stand, even if it may sometimes be absurd and/or immoral. Today, political correctness enters into the very fabric of society because of all encompassing education and the PR brainwashing that passes for information. Political correctness is not supported by terror as in dictatorships -- for the first time in history psychological persuasion successfully replaces terror. So, democracy and political correctness can coexist; quite a strange hybrid in my view. WM

Not everybody loves the internet and many don't want to know anything about it because they don't want to get sucked into the world of technology. I understand this -- I never wanted a credit card, for instance but finally joined that club. I still wont order anything over the internet or do internet banking. But recently I read a letter in the newspaper that backs me up in the conviction that there is nothing like the internet for finding out about a medical problem. It shouldn't be that way. We should be able to go to the Doctor and HE/SHE should do the research and tell us what's wrong with us. Why doesn't it happen this way? My Mother's doctor told her to take Tums a few months ago because she needed to increase her calcium intake. You don't need to do a lot of research to learn that Tums are almost the last choice for calcium supplementation. On a recent visit I asked my Mother's doctor if she could take calcium supplements. "Oh of course," he said, adding that calcium is better absorbed when there is enough Vitamin D and magnesium in the diet. So why did he suggest Tums??? That's just one minor example of the casual approach some doctors take.
The letter writer told about her difficult recovery after an automobile accident. She knew something was wrong, she had lost some of her speech, she couldn't spell, heard voices. Doctors either sent her home with no referral or gave various misdiagnoses including a prescription for Alzheimer's medication for short-term memory loss. She, being educated and persistent, turned to the internet and shortly found a neurological web site, took a test, and diagnosed herself with a possible "mild traumatic brain injury." With this information she referred herself to brain injury specialists who confirmed the diagnosis. She ends her letter with an invitation to email her for advice if necessary, "I am no expert and flatly refuse conjecture or medical advice, but I'll try to make sure you don't have to go through this alone as I did."
