Communication

Contributions from readers who didn't object to having their email published in Vagabond Pages.

Sometimes I don't receive an answer to my request to publish a letter and I don't know how to interpret it. So I've decided to simplify things and not oblige readers to answer. WM

Vagabond..., Poland..., Golem..., Abortion..., Chinese-Muslim...

Re: Vagabond

I have journeyed long to find you.

I have recently returned to a passion of mine that I have long neglected, that of Existentialism, and am fascinated by your magazine. I found it via a link from a page that I was reading while looking up "Courage To Be" by Paul Tillich.

I will be reading your magazine as much as I can. And I am a little fascinated that you chose the same name as I did for an email handle. Hope it doesn't offend you that I also am using Vagabond. It expresses for me an inner mission, one that I did not seek, but was given to me.

I first studied Existentialism at the Ecumenical Institute, in Chicago Ill. Alas, it seems to no longer exist, but has become ICA World, and no longer seems to function as a study center, but puts on seminars for business leaders, and does not seem to have anything to do with the original mission of the institute. So I parted with them in 1973, and am thankful for this medium called the internet, that has allowed me to find your page.

Maurice, One word: Thanks. I think I know exactly what you mean by 'having to do what we have to do.' Good luck in your search and your aims. As you say it's highly interesting and significant that we are both 'vagabonds' and have the same feeling about the name and choosing it. I hope you'll find something that strikes you. Previously it was a little hard for the reader to find his way through the 'bush' but last month I started a subject index. WM

(Translated from Polish)

Dear William,
.......Finally reached Vagabond and I've printed something out of it to meditate about, as it is not to read but to live through. So I read and live through......

Poland (issues December 95 & 97)

Nice article......... What has happened to Poland recently? Is it a country again? We owe the Poles a great debt of gratitude for breaking the German codes in WWII. (I have an article about it on my site).

Thanks again,

Bill -- Among the Central East European post-Communist countries, Poland is a political and economic success story. Apparently, the investments from American loans to Poland have reaped a profit. Americans on their side say it should all be repaid -- the taxpayers will be happy to see that it didn't have to be written off as is usually the case with this kind of thing. The Poles feel they are being punished for success and think they should be able to continue making the money grow. Both sides have their points and hopefully a compromise will emerge, advantageous for all. WM

Dear William Markiewicz:
We are not acquainted, but having found your wonderfully written article through polishworld.com, when researching Poland for my upcoming trip there for business purposes, I felt compelled to write to you. Never having been there (yet), and, yes, I do appreciate that your article was written a dozen years ago - but, I must say it increased my enthusiasm for my upcoming trip in early June.

Thank you - and if you can give me any more tips I would appreciate it.

Regards,

Lori -- thanks a lot for your appreciation. May I call your attention to another article -- 'Poland Again' in Vagabond's #29 (December 97).WM

Re: Golem (Serbs & Jews) (May 98 issue)

Thank you for your article. The best way to express my gratitude is the attached file ......

Please, read carefully. I believe that the document is not only important IT IS CRUCIAL. Every Jew, Serb, Hindu, Chinese, Russian,... close to two billion people - should know how and WHY did the US decided to unconditionally support the expansion of Islam Fundamentalism.

The answer is (once again) OIL - and the money that flows into the pockets of rich, immoral,.. the mighty few.

United States decided to support one billion Muslims (even fundamentalists) at expense of:

- one billion Chinese
- 700 million Hindu
- 300 million Eastern Orthodox Christians (Russians, Armenians, Serbs, Greeks, Bulgarians,...)
- Jews

The mastermind of this US policy is Mr. Edward P. Djerejian who here brags about his role in the Crusade against the above people. He even forgot his Armenian origin - just to keep close to the power.

...... All Chinese, Hindu, Orthodox Christians should know the America's Great Game plan.

I have never encountered more important text in my life. The mastermind of the misery for two billion people is bragging about his designs!

Good luck with spreading the word.

Best regards,

Re: Abortion (January 96 issue)

hi my name is crystal.... im 14 years old and im doing a paper on abortion at school. i wanted it to be and opinion paper, but we had to do research to support it and actually list the sources. so i looked at your article. anyway, i just wanted to let you know that i like your paper and it may give me some ideas. i am 100% against abortion. and i dont just mean what most people mean when they are anti abortion: "i think it's wrong, but i believe in pro-choice." well that pretty much sounds stupid right? my point is, you don't make it very clear. are you pro-choice? personally, i think the term pro-choice is just an excuse that makes women who murder their child look better. think about it. im guessing that your biological idea also refers to the fact that the baby is part of the mother and therefore is a murder, so why should you make them look better? you say that as adults they should be able to make their own choice. sure their own choices about small ordinary regular parts of life, but life or death? come on, you know that the people who have abortions aren't going to make a wise choice in the first place. if the baby can't choose, the mother shouldn't be able to either , and trust me if it was the baby's choice it would be a much wiser decision.

Crystal -- I'm pleased that my article is of some inspiration to you. Yes, abortion is murder and biologically very harmful to the woman, usually more than she realizes. It is also true that we shouldn't give ourselves a green light to breed indiscriminately because economically and ecologically it would be very irresponsible. Intelligent, not harmful birth control remains the solution. WM

Re: Chinese-Muslim Alliance (October 95 issue)

In reference to your article;

"Islam ...is at present the only religion that kills"..Well where is the Islamic country or the Islamic party that presently KILLS for the sake of killing?

on the other hand the only country on the face of earth which was created mainly on religious base causing misery and disturbance on all international fronts is ISRAEL. And israel the container of judaism is the only recognised country and religion which really KILLS. Read through the torah and wonder what one may expect from followers of such teachings! prophets of God ordering its chosen ones to kill kids and women and the elderly; to cut trees, knock down houses and slaughter animals to terrorise the inhabitants of the land..

Whether u like it or not this israel is the only terrorist killing religious structure on earth now. Qana massacre by the israeli so called "defence army" is the most recent of a chain of terrorist civilian kills which systematically points to a sick and disturbed mind of fanatics who devilishly created a cancerous tumor in the body of human race; the tumor being called now israel. And soon the world will find out that an immediate cure is needed before the illness spreads and disturbs the whole body rather than the infected member.

So you better go back to the books of the jews, Christians and Moslems and learn which one calls for KILLING and TERROR.

the so called islamic groups who operate behind closed doors are definitely non-Moslem since Islam believes in no secret partying. on the contrary the way those "islamists " operate lead to the real mind behind them..GUESS WHO?

and should u still insist on those groups as being the only religious killers then what u think about the Tamil Tigers who are trained by the israeli mosad and have recently attempted to kill prince charles in colombo by a body bomb?

Good luck for you if u really seek the truth, otherwise you have your ways and we have ours.

Salam
Labib
labibs@yahoo.com

Labib -- you contradict yourself. First you state that 'the so called Islamic groups who operate behind closed doors are definitely non-Muslim since Islam believes in no secret partying' and then you state ."You have your ways and we have ours." Who are 'we?' As for me, I'm proud that the Communication Page has become a forum for everybody's free expression.

You also preach the hatred which contributed to the destruction of European Jews and triggered the realisation of political Zionism. Six million is only the tip of the iceberg (Vagabond's April 97 Communication Page) and the 'Jewish people' no longer exists because the destroyed ancient Jewish culture was European. It takes hundreds of years to develop the notion of "people." In America, Jews are a community, not a people and Americans, Canadians and Australians are "nations" not peoples because they are too young to be peoples. If Israel survives the suicidal policy of people like Netanyahu, the Israelis, from their present day status of 'nation' will, after generations, develop the notion of 'people' as well, and this will be in the framework of the mideastern mosaic. So, no cultural problem in the future for the Arab world.

Nota bene, on the May 97 Communication Page I had an exchange of views about Islam with another reader. WM
