Re: Kosovo

Dear Mr. Markiewicz,
It is with utmost respect and admiration that I write to you in order to thank you for your consistent support of the Serbian people; it is very comforting to know that intellectual forces still exist in this (USA) country, and are willing to take up the difficult task of breaking through the web of lies and brain washing methods of the official, "free" press. Your knowledge of history, social make-up, and spirit of Serbia is absolutely astonishing; it makes me, a born Serb, feel a bit guilty of not knowing the history of my own nation in such a detailed and organized fashion; I am impressed with your work and I wish you a long career and much success in your holy pursuit; the world needs people like you.

Thank you very much for your appreciation. those who side with devil probably despise themselves while admiring the Serbs because who in the world would withstand what Yugoslavia does. WM.

Watching CBC Newsworld 2 nights ago, I saw a report that the UN Mission to investigate the situation in Yugoslavia had returned with its report. The voice-over said that atrocity stories were true (I haven't seen this in writing yet) and then they showed the mission spokesman (probably DeMello) stating:

"... and we also learned that inside Serbia itself there are one million refugees from Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo -- totally forgotten."

One million forgotten? I have looked in vein for this quote to reappear in the press or radio or TV. I don't see everything but I thought that this fact would at least make the press stop and think -- what makes Serbia keep going? Why do Serbs find it so hard to believe the 'news' coming from the West? It's because they know that their side of the story is ignored. The press, with few exceptions, believes in simple explanations. Once they decided that Milosevic was guilty for 1991 (I don't agree) they stopped thinking.

I have only recently come across your site and found it to be very refreshing. Your views and insights on many subjects, not least the current situation in Kosovo, has been quite an interesting read. I look forward to future editions of the Vagabond. Meanwhile I'll flick through the years that I have missed.

I have included an article I found that relates in many ways to the points you have been raising. My apologies if you have already read it.

To understand the Serbs, look at their art in Kosovo, says WALDEMAR JANUSZCZAK. These depictions of war and persecution are the focus of the country's beliefs.

Thanks Mirko. Here's the link to the inspired article by Januszczak. WM

Re: Don Juan (November 95 issue)

I'm trying to do some research for my final assessment of this semester. Do you happen to know exactly who created the character of Don Juan? I was once told that it was the famous Spanish author Lope de Vega, but as I am researching, I'm finding that this may not be true. If you have any information, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could send it to me at this email address: s0uls c0re@aol.com...those o's are actually zeros.

Thanks again for your time and your help.

Below is a URL with a list of the main writers on the topic. For me, the most important are Tirso de Molina and Jose Zorilla because the legend is Spanish. Tirso de Molina was the first but Zorilla is more elaborate. Good luck with your project. WM

Re: Holocaust

William,
l would like to get in touch online with some survivors, and with germans who were involved in the Holocaust, and with anyone who still 'denies' the Holocaust. personal interviews give a very different, human touch as opposed to mere facts, statistics and articles, which i really desire to have. although i appreciate that many will be reluctant to discuss such a deeply personal matter with a online stranger, if you could put me in touch with someone whom you think would be able to help me in any any way, i would be deeply grateful.

Ashish -- this URL will take you to the testimony of one holocaust survivor:

To talk to survivors may be possible; in your place I would try to contact some Jewish organizations through Alta Vista, clicking on HOLOCAUST. In my view to contact Germans will be next to impossible. Those people keep a low profile. WM

Re: Intellectual Matchmaker

Dear William,
I'm writing to let you know about Free-Market.Net's new Intellectual Matchmaker and request a link on your Web site. We have made up a few different styles of link buttons and did the cut-and-paste HTML here:
http://www.free-market.net/about/linking.html#imm

This is the biggest thing we've done in a long time, and we're trying to do everything we can to get the word out about it.

If you haven't seen it yet, the Matchmaker is a 10-question quiz that asks the user about their interests and then makes recommendations about libertarian people, books, Web sites, events, local organizations, and other pro-freedom resources that they might be interested in. Since it's personalized to their own interests and circumstances, we think it's a good tool for showing people how freedom and the libertarian movement can be relevant to their individual lives. We think it will end up being a good way to push those people who are teetering on the edge into being real libertarians.

If you haven't already, I hope you'll come check it out. And if there's anything you can do to help us spread the word about it, we'd really appreciate the help.

Call or e-mail me or Chris Whitten (chris@free-market.net) if you have any questions or comments about it.

Thanks!

Re: Vagabond

I liked very much your articles on Serbs and on Holocaust. Can you tell me a little more about your newsletter and who stands behind it.
