What do the present demonstrations in Quebec City teach us? That globalization from above also triggers globalization from below. Suddenly people realize where the danger lurks and the danger is secrecy of those powerful and organized ones and the ignorance of the shapeless masses. This ignorance at the global level cannot be maintained as in the past because education and communication have increased all over the world, an irreversible trend. At the Summit the powerful wouldn't even have discussed the issues that the demonstrators throw in their faces. Alas, the blessing of enlightenment still doesn't concern regional issues where the worst injustices, false accusations and crimes in the name of justice can be committed with impunity because global consciousness can only be triggered by global interests. Entire nations are not included in the global interests because they are situated on the peripheries of the big game. For those like Kurds, Palestinians, Serbs, history will just continue as it has up to now, at least for the near future.
