OPEN BOUQUET (March-April)

By William Markiewicz

(As other short items may follow, I've decided to group them together.)

Benedict XVI (4/20)

Contrary to my expectations, a Conservative has been elected as the new Pope. But, according to John Paul's formula: "per il bene della Chiesa," surprises are not excluded. Benedict XVI is an experienced, very intelligent politician.

Prophecy Fulfilled? (3/17)

from Antiwar.com:
Bush: Troops in Iraq Indefinitely
Blair: No Time Set for UK Troops to Leave Iraq
Myers: US Weighs Long-Term Afghan Bases
US House Backs $81.4 Billion War Spending Bill
Report: 108 Died in US Custody

There was the nazi regime, the communist regime -- now the antichrist regime?

Rumsfeld -- Grow Up! (3/12)

"U.S. Gaining World's Respect From Wars, Rumsfeld Asserts" -- Washington Post, March 11, 2005. Belgium is small, doesn't make wars and big neighbour France respects tiny Belgium. Rumsfeld should grow up for the good of the rest of the world to realise that bullyism gets respect only in primary school playgrounds.

Kurd-Shiite Rapprochement in Iraq (3/10)

It's good news on condition that the Kurds and Shiites don't become gendarmes of the NWO oil interests at the expense of the Sunnis, women and seculars. In any case, what happens now in Iraq, Latin America, and even in Lebanon, is a tremendous backlash against the progress of neo-Bonapartism's crushing roller.

What I would say to the Lebanese people if I were Assad (3/06)

America uses the situation in Lebanon only to attack and harrass us. They continue to humiliate not only Syria but the whole Arab world. After pushing Syria out of Lebanon so precipitously, the forthcoming vacuum will prompt somebody to provoke a new Muslim-Christian war. And who will enter as "mediator"? -- America of course! Who wants to exchange the Syrian presence for an American presence? Let's thwart their Machiavellian plans and discuss our matters among brothers and neighbours without foreign interference.
