THE CRIMINAL WORLD WON -- MILOSEVIC IS DEAD

By William Markiewicz

Slobodan Milosevic joins the pantheon of solitary, mostly tragic heroes who fight an unequal fight against overwhelming injustice and evil. He's in the cohort of people like Dimitrov, of those martyrs burned at the stake in the Middle Ages. In art and literature they are symbolized by characters like the little Dutch boy who put his finger in the dyke, Joan of Arc, Don Quixote, Popeye, who has deep meaning under the humour: a little man against the world. Yugoslavia,in particular the Serbs, join the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Numancia, Masada .... During WW2 they were fighting for the Allies, who, as a token of gratitude, doomed them 65 years later. They are victims of those who dress themselves in the robes of justice to inflict fear in would-be rebels. Look at the transcripts of Milosevic's trial at the Jurist Forum and you'll realise the Gehenna of this man gripped by a humanly impossible task. It is the epic of a man against a falling rock. Milosevic was very intelligent but his enemies didn't need intelligence; they had power.
