Friends reproach me that I write too much on the same subject. They may be right but anger overrides my concern for the quality of Vagabond.

The current face of the peace negotiations in the Middle East presents itself as a waltz of retaliations. Abbas has a wounded leg but it is Sharon who is limping.

There are only two steps for Israel toward peace -- unconditional dismantling of all the settler-commandos and creation of a steel cordon around Israeli borders. Only then, at the very end, may they think about negotiating for peace. If after this the enemy still attacks, it will be purely at its own risk. In my opinion, Israel can rely on the common sense of the Palestinians who will stop the terror by themselves once the benefits of peace are clear to them.

A few days ago, a Canadian TV documentary, showed how invalid confessions of crime to the police may be. Of course, the guilty denies. Worse is when the innocent confesses, faithfully fabricating phony details to prove his own guilt. The human spirit is too easily broken when confronted with experts in drawing out confessions. This problem has always existed when evidence had to be replaced by confessions. In the Middle Ages, evidence was often replaced by 'Divine judgement.' Today we rely too much on confession and testimony. The only solution I see is to dethrone the value of confession and to double and triple screen the witness. A lawyer should always be present at interrogations. An accusation of crime without evidence shouldn't hang like a fatal shadow over the head of the suspect. Luckily for justice, scientific and technological progress is taking a giant step toward evidence so that lesser tactics, like confession and testimony, can be relegated to the background.

Once the regimes are changed, what's next on Planet Bush's terraforming panel?

Switching to more immediate issues: Bush is in a hurry to succeed on the Israeli - Palestinian front before the US electoral campaign starts. He wouldn't be in so much of a hurry if Europe weren't watching. The Israeli and Palestinian extremists know it and will do the maximum to sabotage Bush's efforts. The Arabs are not in so much of a hurry to achieve the peace as the Jews should be. The "eternal war" would be much more to the Jews' detriment; Israel is small, potentially more vulnerable, and the continued bloodshed will constantly torment the never-healing scar of the Holocaust. Will Sharon and his US lobby finally understand this?

And, the US terraforming policy may not include Israel for eternity. We don't yet know terraforming's hidden agenda.

I heard this on a French Canadian radio program this morning; I didn't catch the author's name:

"Loss of money: small loss
Loss of honor: big loss
Loss of courage: irreplaceable loss"

The fierce Jews lost their bravery when the Romans overpowered and threw them into Diaspora.

The fierce Serbs bowed after Nato bombs fell on their beautiful Belgrade and depleted uranium bombs poisoned their beautiful land and they could do nothing, NOTHING, to stop it. To top it of, the world has exulted at their plight as if at a Corrida.

The fierce 'prehistoric' Pashtuns learned fear for the first time when megabombs crushed their mountains into pieces. They must have felt like dinosaurs under a deluge of meteorites, the earth boiling around them.

Brutal power caused three peoples distanced in time and geography to lose their intrinsic poetry of bravery. A loss to them and to all humanity.
