CAN THERE BE "CLEAN" POLITICS?

By William Markiewicz

Nato's bombing killed civilians in Gadaffi's camp. The Libyan rebels, official allies of the West, are tiptoeing, seemingly because of their inexperience, and they suffer from lack of heavy weaponry and money -- both things that their allies could easily provide. Paradoxically, despite having the most powerful enemy against them, Gadaffi's forces seem to hold their ground better. Actually we don't know if, and on which side Nato is negotiating -- perhaps on both sides?... Maybe Nato is not interested in the definitive victory of one side; the traditional Arab tyrants are compromised forever. Do the allies want victory of true democracy? Maybe they don't believe that democracy has any chance there. Maybe personal tyranny can be replaced only by extreme religious dictatorships? Maybe the allies will forget their beautiful slogans about defending freedom there and will return to the traditional policy of defending their own interests? We know Nato's power, we know less about their smartness.

Nato's leaders are no better than the enemy they confront: Nato should not follow their own greedy old fashioned megalomaniacs, but let the history of those regions develop on at their own pace. In the meantime the West can "cultivate their own garden". The West is really invincible when it keeps to itself.
