William,
Re: (1) Chinese dissident and (2) The international peace keepers
The following seems to be true:-
(1) Chinese dissident
Some people have the heart, mind and will to fight all their lives for a just cause; others, in the majority don't.
(2) The international peace keepers
The pattern seems to be that the so-called "international community" is the "community" of the most powerful which dictates policies of intervention, be this in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti - or, wherever such powers are pursuing their interests.

The US and UK governments know exactly what happened - but will never tell - that is the core of the point.
Consider: Why would the forensic doctor's labels, placed for purposes of identification of bodies and their place when found, have been removed - thus confusing the true evidence - just one of the questions.
For the true answers, try Khaled Ja' far - drugs - covert operations - the CIA - and MI6 - and therein you shall discover the answers.
Al Meghari did not do the bombing.
My letter is in regard to the thought-provoking commentary by William Markiewiczw entitled, "Destruction of Serbia?"
If the Greeks think that what happened to Serbia, will not happen to them, they should think again. If there is ever a choice to be made between Greece and Turkey, especially for political reasons, Greece will go by way of Serbia. Just follow the money. Both were loyal allies of the West in two world wars, but today, loyalty is no longer a word in the American dictionary.
Senator Joe Biden declared "all Serbs should be placed in Nazi-style concentration camps" during Senatorial deliberations in 1999 over NATO's attack against Serbia. On Larry King Live, he characterized the Serbs as a "bunch of illiterates, degenerates, baby killers, butchers and rapist." Had this been said of any other ethnic group, there would have been condemnation from the floor of the House and in the Senate to condemn Biden's insensitive and racist words and by the media, but there was silence. After all, they were only Serbs.
As though this were not enough, I contend that his visit to Serbia in May of 2009 was to further humiliate and dehumanize the Serbian people collectively. To make sure that the Phoenix Will Never Rise Again!
V.P. Biden is the gift that keeps giving. Joe Biden had to drop out of the 1988 presidency as candidate after his admission that he plagiarized passages of speeches given by a British politician, Neil Kinnock. Joe Biden also said, "When the stock market crashed, FDR went to TV to speak to the American people," except there was no TV cable at the time and FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed! And let's not forget Joe Biden's words when he spoke at a rally and said, "Stand up Charlie so that everyone can see you!" The problem is that Charlie was in a wheelchair and is a paraplegic!
The Democrat nominating committed even considered "Hiden Biden," because of all of his gaffs! But not to worry! I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and drop it will!
My fervent prayer is that nothing will happen to our President when you consider the alternative. Joe Biden would take over the reins of our country, and after him, if necessary, would be Nancy Pelosi. Does God really hate our country so much as to have condemned us to this fate?

Hi Bill,
I will assume and I believe correctly, that you are of Polish descent and that you authored Destruction of Serbia?
It might be of interest to you that from 1979 to 1981, my husband, Col. George Jatras, was the Senior U.S. Air Attaché in Moscow. We traveled from deep Siberia to central Asia with the KGB right behind us. Prior to leaving Moscow, we took a trip through Eastern Europe, Warsaw, Prague, side trip to Vienna, Budapest and Bucharest. Of all the countries, Romania was probably the saddest.
After having lived in the Soviet Union for two years, Poland was refreshing. It was the time Solidarity (Solidarnosc) was in full swing. They were selling souvenirs, T-Shirts, religious pins in front of either St. Mary's or St. John's. My memory fails me there.
Although the end-of-tour reports were normally three to four pages long, my husband's end-of-tour report was 27 pages long, reports that went back to Washington. On page 17, he wrote, "if you've gotten this far, please call me at such and such a number." He had calls from two Congressmen who noted his comment to the effect, "When Leonid Brezhnev as did not go in and suppress the Poles, that was the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union."
Just a little bit of useless knowledge.
Cheers,
Stella (Jatras)
Bill, I thought of another story you will enjoy.
In Warsaw, we stayed with our counterpart attaché who took us to one of the local restaurants for dinner. When the waiter asked for our order, I didn't like anything on the menu (mostly game), so I asked for something in vegetables. The waiter looked around before telling us, "How about a pork roast!" and with that, we all laughed and said that would be great.
My husband noticed an accordion and a chair off in the corner and asked if there was going to be music. The waiter said that there would be. When the musician showed up, he played tunes like "I Left My Heart, In San Francisco," and then began to play some of John Phillip Sousa's marches.
When we got up to leave, my husband asked our host if it would be all right to tip him in American money, because in Moscow, where we were posted, it was not permitted for Russians to have foreign currency. George asked if a dollar would be all right and our host said, "of course! He would be very happy with a dollar tip!" which is what George gave him. As we got up to leave the restaurant, the accordion player followed us out the door and played, "The Stars and Stripes Forever!" and with that, George chuckled and gave him an additional dollar tip!
The guy was happy and so were we!

*****In the article “Nobody Likes Us? Who Cares?”, you wrote that the situation after WW2 brought the destruction of Serbia. As far as we can see, even losing Kosovo and separating from former Yugoslavia didn’t lead to the destruction of Serbia. Could you explain your opinion?
Nobody could have predicted what the situation would be sixty years after World War 2. In my opinion Serbia caught a virus which will be very slow to show effects but the results cannot be promising. Society now is confused as never before. The “pro Europeans” in Serbia don’t realise that they are following the enemy who doesn’t even need them. During World War Two the Serbs and the Greeks were valuable allies who influenced the Allied victory. Today the Serbs and the Greeks, even as the allies of the present pro Nato trend, are dispensable. Nobody cares if they are friends or not. The Greeks don’t suffer from the situation. On the other hand, the Serbs have too many enemies around them who know how to take revenge. Serbia’s neighbours, during WW2, were pro European, which was a Nazi conception. Now, after the defeat of Nazi Germany, they continue to be pro European with great ability to influence Serbia’s former allies against Serbia. They well used the fact that after the war peace and harmony usually prevails among former enemies and now this peace, harmony and friendship are an instrument to target Serbia. The Greeks got away because they don’t have powerful enemies who could exploit the new situation. The Serbs were mostly hill warriors and peasants in the old times and then after the last five hundred years of submission to the Turks, didn’t integrate into Western society and simply became powerless against demoniac poisoned arrows directed to the most sensitive core of Serbian soul. The Serbs never knew how to counter, how to defend themselves against subtle well built moral wounds which, after a longer term, are more mortal than the physical ones. Serbian society today is divided; they follow Europe because they see how well it served their enemies but they don’t understand that now it doesn’t matter any more. They are dispensable. They are brainwashed by the demagogues and don’t understand that once they become part of the European community they will remain pariahs with a poison that penetrates deep into the soul. They already believe too much in Serbian guilt. In the future they may deny their Serbian origins and even stop being Serbs. This is what I meant when I wrote, ”Sixty years later the Second World War brought destruction of Serbia.” WM
