AL QUAEDA ON SHOW

By William Markiewicz

Through CNN news, the U.S. recently presented the story of videos showing the Al Quaeda training for future terrorist attacks.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but again: why should we take all the American military statements as gospel truth? How come the Americans always conveniently find material to support the issue they are pushing? All over the world, in all disciplines, a submission requires a critical approach. Would we automatically accept some Nazi document showing that Jews used Christian blood for Passover service? Would we automatically accept a document from Taliban or whatever sources showing that Americans eat children for breakfast? Would we believe Communist sources showing American cops killing the poor on sight? Am I wrong or anti-Yankee to state that too much is too much? Why would the Al Quaeda and Taliban be so stupid as to spread any secret compromising material?

Recently I saw a window display in an antique shop, an order from Hitler when he became supreme chief of the Army, in 1940 I believe. In this order Hitler emphasized discretion, ordering that only soldiers engaged in specific operations should have knowledge of those operations. For everybody else it was an off-limits sealed secret. You don't have to be Hitler to acknowledge the essential importance of secrecy in wartime. In this light the videos of Osama bin Laden exhibiting himself with his collaborators in neverending diatribes and videos showing off Al Quaeda or Taliban skill in attacking targets seem like some melodrama on stage. But our 'public opinion' just like those spectators at the Roman Arena, find highly satisfying whatever their rulers feed them.
