I was furious the other night to hear Prime Minister Harper emotionally orating that Canada would defend Israel. Where did he get his assurance that he’s speaking for Canada? Last week Ignatieff made a fool of himself trying to backtrack from his criticisms of Israel so our Prime Minister decided to pander for some glory from the Israelis. A prime minister who is so out of touch can’t lead anyone out of this morass; why make such uncalled for statements just to capture the vote of the month? He called the Palestinian representatives “a terrorist organization” but for him, Israel, with all the power to fence in Palestinians, blow up their leaders using cell phones, track suspects into their homes, is OK I suppose. I looked up his exact words: His government “cannot and will not be neutral” but it’s vital to "seek a fair and just future for the Palestinian people." I do not want any Israeli civilians to be blown up in this war but Harper seems too dumb to know that you can’t state that you are a partisan of the powerful and then say you want a fair and just solution for the underdog.

I haven’t commented about the argument between those two gentlemen because I like neither of them. I wrote what I think of Ignatieff in "Savonarola-Ignatieff" ...
Regarding Harper, with his involvment in the Bush/Blair war I consider him a neocolonialist, not in the Canadian tradition. I’m sorry for Israel with these kind of supporters. Once those “neos” are ousted by the disillusioned voters, who will support Israel -- Europe, tired of the never ending problems with the Golan Heights and the West Bank? After the death of Rabin and up to now it seems that Israel has lost the opportunity for a beautiful coexistence with its neighbours. WM

On September 27th, the Hague Tribunal sentenced Momcilo Krajisnik,
former Speaker of the Bosnian parliament and of the Bosnian Serbs, to 27 years in prison. The Hague is a kangaroo court. Poor Momcilo Krajisnik. The Serbs must support him and other Serbs who have been convicted by this Star Chamber so-called court that only convicts Serbs. Nobody has noticed that Naser Oric, the Muslim commander at Srebrenica proudly showed films of burning Serbian houses, dead Serbian bodies and severed heads to Toronto Star Reporter Bill Schiller and was sentenced to two years, released for time served and went home as a hero. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Agim Ceku, lead the expulsion of 200,000 Krajina Serbs many of whom were slaughtered along the way. Senior Canadian officers who witnessed the slaughter demanded that Ceku be indicted. Nobody cared. That’s the tip of the iceberg.
Now, here’s Momcilo Krajisnik, convicted for being part of an invented criminal conspiracy because they couldn’t invent anything else. Since the Hague Tribunal was created to convict Serbs, Serbs must do all they can to help those convicts. Maybe some are guilty of the crimes they were charged with. As far as I’m concerned that’s a matter of chance. Crimes were committed by all sides in those wars but only the Serbs are paying and will continue to pay. We have to do something to honor and help these people and their families.
